Mt 22:23: On that day Sadducees, those
saying there is
no resurrection, came
to Him, and they questioned
Him, Mt 22:24: saying, “Teacher, Moses said, ‘If anyone should die not having children, his brother will marry his wife and will raise up offspring for his brother.’ Mt 22:25: Now there were seven brothers among us; and the first died, and having married not having seed, he left his wife to his brother. Mt 22:26: Likewise also the second, and the third, unto the seventh. Mt 22:27: And last of all, the woman died. Mt 22:28: In the resurrection, therefore, of which of the seven will she be wife? For all had her.” Mt 22:29: And, Jesus answering said to them, “You err, not knowing the Scriptures, nor the power of God. Mt 22:30: For in the resurrection, neither do they marry, nor are given in marriage, but they are like angels in heaven. Mt 22:31: And concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read that which has been spoken to you by God, saying, Mt 22:32: I am the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob?’ He is not the God of [the] dead, but of [the] living.” |
Mk 12:18: And Sadducees, who say
there is not
a resurrection, come
to Him. And they
began questioning
Him, saying, Mk 12:19: “Teacher, Moses wrote for us, that if anyone’s brother should die and leave behind a wife and not leave children, that his brother should take the wife and raise up seed for his brother. Mk 12:20: There were seven brothers; and the first took a wife, and dying, left no seed. Mk 12:21: And the second took her, and died, not having left seed. And the third likewise. Mk 12:22: And the seven left no seed. Last of all, the woman also died. Mk 12:23: In the resurrection, when they rise, of which of them will she be wife? For the seven had her as wife.” Mk 12:24: Jesus was saying to them, “Do you not err because of this, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God? Mk 12:25: For when they rise out from [the] dead, neither do they marry, nor are given in marriage; but they are like angels in the heavens. Mk 12:26: And concerning the dead, that they rise, have you not read in the book of Moses on the bush, how God spoke to him, saying, ‘I [am] the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? Mk 12:27: He is not God of [the] dead, but of [the] living. You err greatly.” |
Lk 20:27: And some of the Sadducees, the ones
denying there is
a resurrection,
having approached,
questioned Him, Lk 20:28: saying, “Teacher, Moses wrote to us if anyone’s brother should die having a wife, and he is childless, that his brother should take the wife and should raise up seed to his brother. Lk 20:29: Therefore there were seven brothers. And the first, having taken a wife, died childless; Lk 20:30: and the second Lk 20:31: and the third took her; and likewise also the seven did not leave children and died. Lk 20:32: Finally the woman also died. Lk 20:33: Therefore in the resurrection, the woman, whose wife does she become? For the seven had her as wife.” Lk 20:34: And Jesus said to them, “The sons of this age marry and are given in marriage. Lk 20:35: But those having been considered worthy to obtain that which [is] to the age, and the resurrection which [is] from [the] dead, neither marry nor are given in marriage. Lk 20:36: For neither are they able to die any more, for they are like [the] angels and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection. Lk 20:37: But that the dead are raised, even Moses showed at the bush, when he calls [the] Lord ‘the God of Abraham, and God of Isaac, and God of Jacob.’ Lk 20:38: Now He is not God of [the] dead, but of [the] living; for all live to Him.” |
Then Sadducees, who claim there is no resurrection, approached and asked
him, saying,
“Teacher, Moses wrote that if a someone dies without a child, his brother should marry the woman and raise offspring for his brother.
There were seven brothers. The first one married and died without having children.
Then the second and the third and likewise the seven.
Last of all, the woman died.
In the resurrection, whose wife will she be, since the seven had her?”
Jesus said to them, “After the resurrection, they neither marry nor are given in marriage but are like angels.
As for the dead being raised, (⎡Moses called|God said⎤) ‘⎡I am|the Lord is⎤ the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.’
He is not God of the dead, but of the living.”
