Mt 22:15: Then the Pharisees having gone out, took counsel how
they
might
trap
Him in
His
words. Mt 22:16: And they send their disciples to Him, with the Herodians, |
Mk 12:13: And they send some of the Pharisees and Herodians to Him, that they might catch Him in discourse. | Lk 20:20: And having watched [Him], they sent spies, feigning themselves to be righteous, that they might catch [Him] in His word, in order to deliver Him to the rule and to the authority of the governor. |
| saying, |
Mk 12:14: And having come, they say to Him, |
Lk 20:21: And they questioned Him, saying, |
| “Teacher, we know | “Teacher, we know | “Teacher, we know |
| that You are true, | that You are true, and to You there is no care about [any] one; | that You speak rightly, |
|
and You
teach
the
way
of
God
in
[the]
truth, and to You there is care
about no one, for You
do
not
look on
[the]
appearance of men. Mt 22:17: Therefore tell us, what do You think? |
for You do not look on [the] appearance of men, but teach the way of God on the basis of [the] truth. | and teach and do not receive [any] person, but teach the way of God on the basis of truth. |
| Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?” | Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar or not? Should we pay or not pay?” |
Lk 20:22: Is it lawful for us to give tribute to Caesar, or not?” |
|
Mt 22:18: But having known their malice, Jesus said, |
Mk 12:15: And knowing their hypocrisy, He said to them, |
Lk 20:23: But having perceived their craftiness, He said to them, |
|
“Hypocrites, why do you test Me? Mt 22:19: Show Me the coin of the tribute.” |
“Why do you test Me? Bring Me a denarius, that I might see [it].” |
Lk 20:24: “Show Me a denarius. |
|
And they presented to Him a denarius. Mt 22:20: And He says to them, “Whose likeness and whose inscription [is] this?” |
Mk 12:16: And they brought [it], and He says to them, “Whose likeness and inscription [is] this?” |
Whose image and inscription does it have?” |
|
Mt 22:21: They say to Him, |
And they said to Him, | And they said, |
| “Caesar’s.” | “Caesar’s.” | “Caesar’s.” |
| Then He says to them, |
Mk 12:17: And Jesus said to them, |
Lk 20:25: And He said to them, |
| “Therefore give back to Caesar the things of Caesar, | “Give back to Caesar the things of Caesar, | “Therefore give back to Caesar the things of Caesar, |
| and to God the things of God.” | and to God the things of God.” | and to God the things of God.” |
|
Mt 22:22: And having heard, they marveled. And having left Him, they went away. |
And they were amazed at Him. |
Lk 20:26: And they were not able to catch Him in His word before the people. And having marveled at His answer, they became silent. |
They sent (some people), so as to trap him in his speach.
They said, “Teacher, we know that you are sincere and do not look at appearances.
You teach the way of God truthfully. Is it permitted to pay taxes to Caesar or not?”
But Jesus recognized their intention and said to them, “Show me a coin.”
“Whose face and inscription is this?” They said to him, “Caesar’s.”
So Jesus said to them, “Give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.” And they were amazed.
