The Rich Man

Mt 19:16-29; Mk 10:17-30; Lk 18:18-30

Mt Mk Lk
Mt 19:16: Καὶ ἰδοὺ εἷς προσελθὼν αὐτῷ εἶπεν· Διδάσκαλε, τί ἀγαθὸν ποιήσω ἵνα σχῶ ζωὴν αἰώνιον;

Mt 19:20: Λέγει αὐτῷ νεανίσκος· Πάντα ταῦτα ἐφύλαξα· τί ἔτι ὑστερῶ;

Mt 19:25: Ἀκούσαντες δὲ οἱ μαθηταὶ ἐξεπλήσσοντο σφόδρα λέγοντες· Τίς ἄρα δύναται σωθῆναι;

Mt 19:27: Τότε ἀποκριθεὶς Πέτρος εἶπεν αὐτῷ· Ἰδοὺ ἡμεῖς ἀφήκαμεν πάντα καὶ ἠκολουθήσαμέν σοι· τί ἄρα ἔσται ἡμῖν;

Mk 10:17: Καὶ ἐκπορευομένου αὐτοῦ εἰς ὁδὸν προσδραμὼν εἷς καὶ γονυπετήσας αὐτὸν ἐπηρώτα αὐτόν· Διδάσκαλε ἀγαθέ, τί ποιήσω ἵνα ζωὴν αἰώνιον κληρονομήσω;

Mk 10:26: Οἱ δὲ περισσῶς ἐξεπλήσσοντο λέγοντες πρὸς ἑαυτούς· Καὶ τίς δύναται σωθῆναι;

Lk 18:18: Καὶ ἐπηρώτησέν τις αὐτὸν ἄρχων λέγων· Διδάσκαλε ἀγαθέ, τί ποιήσας ζωὴν αἰώνιον κληρονομήσω;

Lk 18:26: Εἶπαν δὲ οἱ ἀκούσαντες· Καὶ τίς δύναται σωθῆναι;

Mt Mk Lk
Mt 19:16: And behold, one having come to Him said, “Teacher, what good [thing] shall I do that I might have eternal life?”

Mt 19:17: And He said to him, “Why do you ask Me about what is good? Only One is good. But if you desire to enter into life, keep the commandments.”

Mt 19:18: He says to Him, “Which?” And Jesus said, “‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not bear false witness,

Mt 19:19: you shall honor the father and mother, and you shall love your neighbor as yourself.’”

Mt 19:20: The young man says to him, “All these things I have kept. What do I still lack?”

Mt 19:21: Jesus was saying to him, “If you desire to be perfect, go, sell what you are possessing, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in [the] heavens; and come, follow Me.”

Mt 19:22: And having heard this statement, the young man went away grieving; for he was [one] having many possessions.

Mt 19:23: And Jesus said His to disciples, “Truly I say to you that with difficulty a rich man will enter into the kingdom of the heavens.

Mt 19:24: And again I say to you, [it] is easier for a camel to go through [the] eye of a needle, than a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.”

Mt 19:25: And the disciples having heard were exceedingly astonished, saying, “Who then is able to be saved?”

Mt 19:26: And Jesus having looked on [them], said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things [are] possible.”

Mt 19:27: Then Peter answering said to Him, “Behold, we left all things and followed You; what then will be to us?”

Mt 19:28: And Jesus said to them, “Truly I say to you that in the regeneration, when the Son of Man shall sit down upon His throne of glory, you having followed Me, you also will sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

Mt 19:29: And everyone who has left houses, or brothers, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for the sake of My name, will receive a hundredfold, and will inherit eternal life.

Mk 10:17: And going forth on His journey, one having run up and having knelt down to Him, was asking Him, “Good Teacher, what shall I do that I might inherit eternal life?”

Mk 10:18: And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one [is] good, except God alone.

Mk 10:19: You know the commandments: ‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not bear false witness, you shall not defraud, you shall honor your father and mother.’”

Mk 10:20: And he was saying to Him, “Teacher, all these I have kept from my youth.”

Mk 10:21: And Jesus, having looked upon him, loved him and said to him, “One thing to you is lacking: Go, sell as much as you have, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”

Mk 10:22: And having been sad at the word, he went away grieving; for he was [one] having many possessions.

Mk 10:23: And Jesus having looked around, says to His disciples, “How difficultly those having riches will enter into the kingdom of God!”

Mk 10:24: And the disciples were astonished at His words. But Jesus answering says to them again, “Children, how difficult it is to enter into the kingdom of God!

Mk 10:25: It is easier [for] a camel to pass through the eye of the needle, than [for] a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.”

Mk 10:26: And they were exceedingly astonished, saying among themselves, “Then who is able to be saved?”

Mk 10:27: Having looked on them, Jesus says, “With men [it is] impossible, but not with God; for all things [are] possible with God.”

Mk 10:28: Peter began to say to Him, “Behold, we have left all and followed You.”

Mk 10:29: Jesus was saying, “Truly I say to you, there is no one who has left house, or brothers, or sisters, or mother, or father, or children, or lands for My sake and because of the gospel,

Mk 10:30: who shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time– houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions– and in the age which is coming, eternal life.

Lk 18:18: And a certain ruler asked Him, saying, “Good Teacher, having done what, will I inherit eternal life?”

Lk 18:19: And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one [is] good, except God alone.

Lk 18:20: You know the commandments: ‘You shall not commit adultery, you shall not murder, you shall not steal, you shall not bear false witness, you shall honor your father and mother.’”

Lk 18:21: And he said, “All these have I kept from my youth.”

Lk 18:22: And having heard, Jesus said to him, “To you, yet one thing is lacking: Sell all, as much as you have, and distribute to [the] poor, and you will have treasure in the heavens; and come, follow Me.”

Lk 18:23: And having heard these things, he became very sorrowful; for he was extremely rich.

Lk 18:24: And having seen him, Jesus became sorrowful, saying, “How difficultly those having riches shall enter into the kingdom of God.

Lk 18:25: For it is easier for a camel to go through an eye of a needle, than a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.”

Lk 18:26: And those having heard said, “Then who is able to be saved?”

Lk 18:27: But He said, “The things impossible with men are possible with God.”

Lk 18:28: And Peter said, “Behold, we having left the own, followed You.”

Lk 18:29: And He said to them, “Truly I say to you that there is no one who has left house or wife or brothers or parents or children for the sake of the kingdom of God,

Lk 18:30: who shall not receive manifold more in this time–and in the age that is coming, eternal life.”

Someone asked, “Teacher, what shall I do to have eternal life?” Jesus said to him, “Why do you ask me about good? Nobody is good except for one — God.

You ⸂know¦follow⸃ the commandments: ‘Do not murder.’ ‘Do not commit adultery.’ ‘Do not steal.’ ‘Do not give false testimony.’ ‘Honor your father and mother.’”

He replied, “All these I have observed.”

Jesus told him, “Sell what you own, give to the destitute, and you will have treasure in heaven.

And come, follow me.”

Hearing it, he was sad, because he had many possessions.

Jesus said, “The rich will enter with difficulty into the kingdom of God!

It is easier for a camel to enter through the eye of a needle than for a rich person into the kingdom of God.”

They said, “Who can be saved?” Jesus replied, “What is impossible for people, is possible for God.”

Then Peter said, “See, we have left everything and followed you.”

Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you,

all who have left home, siblings, parents, or children

for ⎡my sake|the sake of the kingdom of God⎤

will receive many times as much and eternal life.”
