Jesus in Nazareth

Mt 13:54-58; Mk 6:1-6; Lk 4:16-30

Mt 13:54: καὶ ἐλθὼν εἰς τὴν πατρίδα αὐτοῦ ἐδίδασκεν αὐτοὺς ἐν τῇ συναγωγῇ αὐτῶν, ὥστε ἐκπλήσσεσθαι αὐτοὺς καὶ λέγειν· Πόθεν τούτῳ ἡ σοφία αὕτη καὶ αἱ δυνάμεις;

Mt 13:55: οὐχ οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ τοῦ τέκτονος υἱός; οὐχ ἡ μήτηρ αὐτοῦ λέγεται Μαριὰμ καὶ οἱ ἀδελφοὶ αὐτοῦ Ἰάκωβος καὶ Ἰωσὴφ καὶ Σίμων καὶ Ἰούδας;

Mt 13:57: καὶ ἐσκανδαλίζοντο ἐν αὐτῷ. Ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· Οὐκ ἔστιν προφήτης ἄτιμος εἰ μὴ ἐν τῇ πατρίδι καὶ ἐν τῇ οἰκίᾳ αὐτοῦ.

Mk 6:1: Καὶ ἐξῆλθεν ἐκεῖθεν καὶ ἔρχεται εἰς τὴν πατρίδα αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἀκολουθοῦσιν αὐτῷ οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ.

Mk 6:2: καὶ γενομένου σαββάτου ἤρξατο διδάσκειν ἐν τῇ συναγωγῇ, καὶ πολλοὶ ἀκούοντες ἐξεπλήσσοντο λέγοντες· Πόθεν τούτῳ ταῦτα, καὶ τίς ἡ σοφία ἡ δοθεῖσα τούτῳ, καὶ αἱ δυνάμεις τοιαῦται διὰ τῶν χειρῶν αὐτοῦ γινόμεναι;

Mk 6:3: οὐχ οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ τέκτων, ὁ υἱὸς τῆς Μαρίας καὶ ἀδελφὸς Ἰακώβου καὶ Ἰωσῆτος καὶ Ἰούδα καὶ Σίμωνος; καὶ οὐκ εἰσὶν αἱ ἀδελφαὶ αὐτοῦ ὧδε πρὸς ἡμᾶς; καὶ ἐσκανδαλίζοντο ἐν αὐτῷ.

Mk 6:4: Καὶ ἔλεγεν αὐτοῖς ὁ Ἰησοῦς ὅτι Οὐκ ἔστιν προφήτης ἄτιμος εἰ μὴ ἐν τῇ πατρίδι αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐν τοῖς συγγενεῦσιν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐν τῇ οἰκίᾳ αὐτοῦ.

Lk 4:16: Καὶ ἦλθεν εἰς Ναζαρά, οὗ ἦν τεθραμμένος, καὶ εἰσῆλθεν κατὰ τὸ εἰωθὸς αὐτῷ ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῶν σαββάτων εἰς τὴν συναγωγήν καὶ ἀνέστη ἀναγνῶναι.

Lk 4:22: Καὶ πάντες ἐμαρτύρουν αὐτῷ καὶ ἐθαύμαζον ἐπὶ τοῖς λόγοις τῆς χάριτος τοῖς ἐκπορευομένοις ἐκ τοῦ στόματος αὐτοῦ καὶ ἔλεγον· Οὐχὶ υἱός ἐστιν Ἰωσὴφ οὗτος;

Lk 4:24: Εἶπεν δέ· Ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι οὐδεὶς προφήτης δεκτός ἐστιν ἐν τῇ πατρίδι αὐτοῦ.

Jn 4:44: αὐτὸς γὰρ Ἰησοῦς ἐμαρτύρησεν ὅτι προφήτης ἐν τῇ ἰδίᾳ πατρίδι τιμὴν οὐκ ἔχει. Jn 4:44: αὐτὸς γὰρ Ἰησοῦς ἐμαρτύρησεν ὅτι προφήτης ἐν τῇ ἰδίᾳ πατρίδι τιμὴν οὐκ ἔχει.

Mt 13:54: And having come into His [own] region, He was teaching them in their synagogue, so that they are astonished and are saying, “From where [came] to this [One] this wisdom and these miraculous powers?

Mt 13:55: Is this not the son of the carpenter? [Is] not His mother called Mary, and His brothers James and Joseph and Simon and Judas?

Mt 13:57: And they were offended at Him. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor, except in the hometown and in his own household.”

Mk 6:1: And He went out from there and came into His hometown; and His disciples follow Him.

Mk 6:2: And [the] Sabbath having come, He began to teach in the synagogue; and many hearing were astonished, saying, “From where to this [man] [are] these things, and what [is] the wisdom having been given to Him, even the miracles such as are done by His hands?

Mk 6:3: Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, and brother of James and Joseph and Judas and Simon? And are not His sisters here with us?” And they took offense at Him.

Mk 6:4: And Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor, except in his hometown, and among his relatives, and in his household.”

Lk 4:16: And He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up; and according to His custom, He entered into the synagogue on the day of the Sabbaths, and stood up to read.

Lk 4:22: And all were bearing witness to Him and marveling at the grace of the words that are proceeding out of His mouth. And they were saying, “Is this not the son of Joseph?”

Lk 4:24: And He said, “Truly I say to you that no prophet is acceptable in his hometown.

Jn 4:44: For Jesus Himself testified that a prophet has no honor in the own hometown. Jn 4:44: For Jesus Himself testified that a prophet has no honor in the own hometown.

 

 

 


And he went to his country. He taught in the synagogue. They were astonished. They said: “Is he not the ⸂carpenter’s¦Joseph’s¦Mary’s⸃ son?”

Jesus said, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own country.”
