The Parable of the Mustard Seed

Mt 13:31-32, Mk 4:30-32, Lk 13:18-19

Mt Mk Lk

Mk 4:30: Καὶ ἔλεγεν· Πῶς ὁμοιώσωμεν τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ Θεοῦ ἢ ἐν τίνι αὐτὴν παραβολῇ θῶμεν;

Lk 13:18: Ἔλεγεν οὖν· Τίνι ὁμοία ἐστὶν βασιλεία τοῦ Θεοῦ καὶ τίνι ὁμοιώσω αὐτήν;

Mt Mk Lk
Mt 13:31: He put before them another parable, saying: “The kingdom of the heavens is like a grain of mustard [seed], which a man having taken, sowed in his field,

Mt 13:32: which indeed is smallest of all the seeds; but when it is grown, it is greater than the garden plants, and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and encamp in its branches.”

Mk 4:30: And He was saying, “To what shall we liken the kingdom of God? Or with what parable shall we present it?

Mk 4:31: As a grain of mustard, which, when it has been sown upon the earth, is smallest of all the seeds that [are] upon the earth,

Mk 4:32: and when it has been sown, it grows up, and becomes greater than all the garden plants, and produces great branches, so that the birds of the air are able to encamp under its shadow.”

Lk 13:18: And He was saying, “To what is the kingdom of God like? And to what shall I liken it?

Lk 13:19: It is like to a grain of mustard, which a man having taken, cast into his garden; and it grew and came into a tree, and the birds of the air encamped in its branches.”

He said, “The kingdom of God is like a mustard seed planted in the ground.

It grows up and becomes a tree, and the birds of the air make nests in the ⎡branches|shade⎤.”
