| Mt 9:2: And behold, they were bringing to Him a paralytic lying on a bed. | Mk 2:3: And they come, bringing to Him a paralytic, being carried by four. | Lk 5:18: And behold, men carrying upon a mat a man who was paralyzed, and they were seeking to bring him in and to place him before Him. | |
| And Jesus, having seen their faith, |
… Mk 2:5: And Jesus, having seen their faith, |
… Lk 5:20: And having seen their faith, |
|
| said to the paralytic, | says to the paralytic, | He said, | |
| “Take courage, son; your sins have been forgiven.” | “Son, your sins are forgiven.” | “Man, your sins have been forgiven you.” | |
|
Mt 9:3: And behold, some of the scribes said to themselves, |
Mk 2:6: And some of the scribes were sitting there and reasoning in their hearts, |
Lk 5:21: And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, |
|
| “This one blasphemes!” |
Mk 2:7: “Why does this [man] speak thus? He blasphemes! Who is able to forgive sins, except God alone?” |
“Who is this who speaks blasphemies? Who is able to forgive sins, except God alone?” | |
|
Mt 9:4: And Jesus, having known their thoughts, |
Mk 2:8: And immediately Jesus, having known in His spirit that they are reasoning thus within themselves, |
Lk 5:22: And Jesus, having known their reasonings, |
|
| said, | says to them, | answering, said to them, | |
| “Why do you think evil in your hearts? | “Why do you reason these things in your hearts? | “Why do you reason in your hearts? | |
|
Mt 9:5: For which is easier, |
Mk 2:9: Which is easier, |
Lk 5:23: Which is easier, |
|
| to say, | to say to the paralytic, | to say, | |
| ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ | ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ | ‘Your sins have been forgiven you,’ | |
| or to say, | or to say, | or to say, | |
| ‘Arise and walk?’ | ‘Arise, and take up your mat, and walk’? | ‘Arise and walk?’ | |
|
Mt 9:6: But so that you may know |
Mk 2:10: But that you might know |
Lk 5:24: But that you may know |
|
| that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins…” | that the Son of Man has authority to forgive sins on the earth…” | that the Son of Man has authority on the earth to forgive sins…” | |
| Then He says to the paralytic, | He says to the paralytic, | He said to the [one] having been paralyzed, | |
| “Having arisen, take up your mat |
Mk 2:11: “I say to you, arise, take up your mat, |
“I say to you, arise, and having taken up your mat, | Jn 5:8: Jesus says to him, “Arise, take up your mat, |
| and go to your house.” | and go to your home.” | go to your house.” | and walk.” |
|
Mt 9:7: And having arisen, |
Mk 2:12: And he arose, |
Lk 5:25: And immediately having stood up before them, |
|
| he went away to his house. | and immediately, having taken up the mat, he went forth before all, | having taken up [that] on which he was lying, he departed to his home, glorifying God. |
Jn 5:9: And immediately the man became well, and he took up his mat and began to walk. And it was [the] Sabbath on that day. |
|
Mt 9:8: And the crowds having seen, marveled and glorified God, the [One] having given such authority to men. |
so as for all to be amazed and to glorify God, saying, “Never did we see thus.” |
Lk 5:26: And amazement seized all, and they were glorifying God, and were filled with fear, saying, “We have seen remarkable things today.” |
(Some people) carried to him a someone paralyzed. Seeing their faith,
Jesus said “Your sins are forgiven.”
Some of the scribes said, “He is blaspheming!”
But Jesus knew their thoughts and said, “Why do you question in your hearts?
Which is easier: to say ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Rise and walk’?
So that you know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.”
Then he said to the paralyzed man, “Rise, pick up your stretcher, and go home!”
So the man rose, picked up the stretcher, and went away.
And they glorified God.
